NEA signs PPA with two micro-hydro projects
Apr 2, 2016-
The Nepal Electricity
Authority (NEA) has signed a Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) to buy
electricity generated from two micro-hydro projects. With the signing of
the PPA, two micro hydro projects--Leguwa Khola in Dhankuta and Syaure
Bhumi in Nuwakot districts--with total installed generation capacity of
63 kilowatt will be connected to the national grid. The NEA will buy
electricity from the micro-hydro projects at Rs 8.60 per unit during dry
season and at Rs 4.80 in the wet season.
The two projects were
commissioned in 2007 with the technical and financial support of the
Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) and are managed by local
communities. “This is a positive move to encourage private power
developers to invests in alternative energy like micro- and mini-hydro projects,” said Ram Prasad Dhital, executive director at AEPC.
